Meet the Team

2KB – Mrs Brown and Mrs Callaghan   2RT - Mrs Thackray and Miss Hemsley

Our Curriculum – 2020-21

This term we will be learning about the Victorians and a Victorian Christmas. We will learn what it was like to be a child in Victorian times and how life was different to things today. We will learn how the Victorians celebrated Christmas and in DT we will be looking at making a Victorian gift.

In Literacy we will be splitting into groups for our phonics learning so that we give the children the best opportunity to succeed. They have already made great progress since we came back to school. We will be reading lots of stories together and talking about them to develop our comprehension skills.

In Maths we will be continuing rods and also learning how to calculate without them too. We will continue to focus on place value learning and how to calculate using the four operations.  In Year 2 our focus is our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We will be beginning with our 10s.

Our children will be exploring the habitats that animals and plants live in and also thinking about food chains. They will discuss why animals live in certain places around the world.

The children will also be learning about what problems face our world and how we can work together to make a positive impact on our planet.

Home learning expectations

Home learning will be uploaded onto Dojo every Thursday. Please complete and return a photograph to your child's teacher. If you are having issues accessing this then please contact your child's teacher as we will need to send you an invitation to join with a unique passcode for your child.

Please read with your child every day and sign their reading record as this is key to your child’s education and their progress in all areas. Reading books will be changed once a week. We ask that the children read their books more than once as by repeating the book it improves the children's fluency and comprehension of what they have read.

This year your child also needs to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables off by heart so please help them to do this. When they’ve mastered this move on to the 3s!

PE days

PE is every Wednesday (Outdoor) and Friday (Indoor) so your child needs to come to school in their kit. This should be black shorts or tracksuit bottoms and a plain white T-shirt. No emblems or logos. They also need a suitable pair of PE shoes.
