Welcome to Year
2KB – Mrs Brown and Mrs Callaghan
2RT – Mrs Thackray and Mrs Deary
Welcome back after what we hope has been a fantastic summer break. We have so many amazing things for the children to learn this year and we look forward to sharing this with you.
This term we will be learning about the oceans of the world.
In Literacy we will be reading stories that are set under the sea along with non-fiction books that tell us lots of interesting facts. We will be working hard on the presentation of our learning and our handwriting.
In Maths we will be continuing rods and also learning how to calculate without them too. We will be focussing on our understanding of the value of number and beginning to learn our times tables. In Year 2 our focus is our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We will be beginning with our 10s.
Our children will be exploring the habitats that animals and plants live in and also thinking about food chains.
The children will also be learning about what lives in our oceans and the threats that face these creatures. This will be supported by our first trip of the year to The Deep on Monday 16th September. We need your plastic junk too as in art we will be producing sculptures to show what is happening to our world – please bring in clean plastics to your child’s classroom.
We will be holding a reading breakfast every Tuesday morning where you can come into class, read with your child and enjoy a slice of toast. Please join us. This will begin on Tuesday 17th September.
PE is every Wednesday (Indoor) and Friday (Outdoor) so your child needs their kit in school. This should be black shorts or tracksuit bottoms and a plain white T-shirt. No emblems or logos. They also need a suitable pair of outdoor shoes for PE each day.
Please read with your child every day and sign their reading record as this is key to your child’s education and their progress in all areas.
Home learning is given out each Friday and must be returned by the following Thursday. It is important that this is brought back on time or we are unable to mark it and issue the next set of homelearning.
This year your child also needs to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables off by heart so please help them to do this. When they’ve mastered this move on to the 3s!
If you have any problems please feel free to come to the pod door to speak to us. We look forward to a fun and exciting year full of fantastic learning.
